Councillors, although unpaid, receive an annual allowance which reimburses them for time they have spent on council duties, as well as telephone and other office expenses.
The City of Lincoln Council pays a basic allowance of £4480.00 per year, with extra special responsibility allowances for those who hold certain posts within the council. Councillors are also entitled to claim travelling and subsistence expenses when performing council duties.
If a councillor has to pay for the care of a dependant whilst they are on council duties and the dependant normally lives with them, they are then reimbursed up to a maximum limit of £5 per hour.
